Plan your arrival time in Google Maps

TL;DR
Set an arrival time in Google Maps to estimate when to leave by car or public transport. Check the route again before you go and allow a little buffer.

Plan your arrival time in Google Maps

Choose your arrival time

Open Google Maps, enter one destination and tap Directions. Choose Driving or Transit, then open the three-dot More menu at the top and select Set depart or arrive time. Choose Arrive by, enter the date and time you need to be there, and confirm. Maps shows routes and estimated travel times for that planned time; use the suggested departure or connection as a planning aid. Menu wording may differ slightly by device or app version.

Match the route to your journey

For driving, compare the suggested routes and the travel-time estimate before choosing when to leave. For public transport, inspect the actual departure, transfers and walking legs of the proposed connection. Google's feature works for a single destination and only for driving or transit; it is not a general arrival-time planner for every travel mode or a multi-stop itinerary.

Check again before you set off

  • Reopen the route shortly before leaving to see the current estimate or latest available transit information.
  • Add your own buffer for parking, finding the entrance, walking from the stop, or delays that matter to you.
  • For an important appointment, verify the connection or traffic again instead of treating a planned departure time as a guarantee.

The estimate for a future trip uses traffic information and transit schedules for the selected time. Conditions can change, so an earlier estimate is useful for planning, not a promise that you will arrive exactly on time.
